Breaking Lotusphere 2009 News: Our submitted session topic in session AD303!

Two weeks ago we got called by IBM Germany, asking if someone from the MindPlan developers could demonstrate the MindPlan Composite Application at Lotusphere 2009.

They were really surprised to hear, that, because our original session submission had not been considered by the Lotusphere track managers, we MindPlan developers had not planned to attend Lotusphere 2009 (only the sales crew and our US Partner Thresher Enterprise Systems).

We had a few phone conferences since then, explained our ideas for the session more in detail and gave them a short MindPlan demo.

They told us that our topic would be an ideal complement to an already scheduled session of Michael Zink, IBM Austria:
AD303: Leveraging 3rd Party Components in IBM Lotus Notes Composite Applications

Michael's session is an overview about the different possibilities of integrating 3rd party components into Lotus Notes (like the AWT/SWT bridge, embedding ActiveX, browser containers in Notes 8.5 etc.) and their inter-component communication using Composite Application technology.

So here is the news:
I will spend the second half of the session and explain in detail what is necessary to integrate a Java/Swing application like MindPlan into Lotus Notes R8.

As Java developers, we will not only have some nice looking slides, but we will show

-- "the real thing" ;-) --

Which means that there will be some code snippets in the slides and in addition, we will provide much more samples and references to Eclipse/Expeditor documentation as a web delivery after the presentation to make sure that not everyone has to reinvent the wheel over and over again in his own integration projects.

So make sure you don't miss session AD303!
I'm really looking forward to be a part of Lotusphere 2009!

New build version of MindPlan CA 3.1 - Sample Composite Applications available now

We uploaded a new build version of the MindPlan Composite Application today into the download area of the website.
The current version is now 3.1 build 200811062110.

This build fixes only one issue, a hanging Notes client when you're using MindPlan in a Composite Application with other components and edit the CA in the Composite Application editor.

How to update your MindPlan CA 3.1.200810292230 to the new version:
To update your existing MindPlan CA installation, please download the CA installation database from the download area, open it and choose the "update" installation. Now only select the Composite Application for installation (deselect the online help/template, they have not changed).
By dragging the MindPlan widget to the "My Widgets" panel, the client should uninstall an existing MindPlan CA plugin and install the new version.

The download area now also contains the "MindPlan Composite Application sample pack".

It contains:
-Five Composite Applications:
--DocViewer read-only - MindPlan and a read-only component with the currently selected node document
--DocViewer editable - like above, but the component is editable now
--Property Viewer - Notes form calculating values from a multi selection
--Sametime integration - Buddy list for resources in current selection
--Export system add-on: exporting MindPlan content via a CA wire
A document with descriptions and screenshots the sample Composite Applications
A MindPlan with the available properties and actions

The sample pack should be a good starting point for you to build your own Composite Application components that interact with MindPlan.

We're really looking forward to that!
If you build Composite Applications with MindPlan, please tell us about it! ...

This update build is a maintenance release that fixes the following main topics:

-error messages in the Notes client when opening MindPlan databases that were updated with 3.0 build 15 templates
-NotesSync: error message when opening synched appointments
-NotesSync: synched todos are disappearing from views after opening them, closing them and pressing F9
-Installation: added an error message for Linux/Mac clients opening the installation database (the database currently only supports Windows)
-Fix for "JIT: OutOfMemory" messages during program execution

The installation package of 3.0 build 16 contains the sample databases and templates that you need for the MindPlan Composite Application that will follow later on (I'm still uploading the archive ;-) ).

Sneak preview: MindPlan on the Mac

Something new from the MindPlan labs... :-) The first screenshots of MindPlan running natively on the Mac.

And some information about the technical requirements for MindPlan on the Mac:
MindPlan uses the Java API of Lotus Notes to store it's data. This API is only available in the beta version of Lotus Notes 8.5, so you definitely need this latest Notes version 8.5 to run MindPlan on the Mac. Lotus Notes 8.5 is only supported on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and so is MindPlan.
In addition, the first MindPlan Mac beta version does only run on Intel-based hardware. PPC processor support may follow later on when we buy one ;-)
(we, the developers, code on an Intel-based MacBook and a MacBook Pro) ...

MindPlan 3.0 Build 15 available in download area, begin of internal MindPlan CA "smoke tests"

The bugfix release MindPlan 3 build 15 is now available in the download area of the MindPlan website. We fixed some minor things in the MindPlan application (e.g. the NullPointerException error message on startup and some incompatibility issues with Lotus Notes R8 installs).
But most of the work was done in the MindPlan Notes database:
The database is now prepared for the upcoming MindPlan Composite Application.

Half an hour ago we sent an information email to announce the internal availability of the first MindPlan Composite Application beta version for the Weilgut employees.
This is just a short "smoke test" phase before we release the MindPlan CA beta version to the public.
The MindPlan CA is feature complete and packed inside an installation database, which is based on the standard IBM Update Site template, but prepared for a "one click installation". ...
